Daniele Monticelli, Maris Saagpakk and Miriam McIlfatrick-Ksenofontov attended and were members of the scientific committee for the 16th International Conference of the Estonian Association of Comparative Literature “World Poetry Today: Production, Translation, Reception”, which took place in Tartu on 1-4 October. The conference brought together over 80 poetry scholars from 18 countries and included 20 thematic sessions, focusing on poetry translation and reception; transmedial, multimodal, and multilingual poetry; the formation of canons and anthologies; glocality and urban space; gender and the female voice in poetry; the question of national identity in poetry. Maris Saagpakk and Miriam McIlfatrick-Ksenofontov presented papers on “Poetry for Peasants. Friedrich Nikolai Russow’s Volume of Translated Poetry “Ued kandlekeled” (1854)” and “The Poem as a Response to Place: How Poetry Speaks of and to the World” respectively. Daniele Monticelli and Anna Verschik led a roundtable on the translation of Ukrainian poetry. Miriam also organized and led an evening of conference participants’ poetry “Kaleidoscope of World Poetry” in Tartu Kirjanduse Maja.
